Adult Learn to Sail 2025
Our Learn to Sail Courses for Adults are run by qualified instructors from the Club for the benefit of members (and are much less expensive than courses run by commercial sailing centres) using our modern fleet of Club training boats.
Ogston Sailing Club is an Approved RYA Training Centre and the planned adult course covers Level 1- Start Sailing, and Level 2 – Basic Skills.
No previous experience is needed. At the end of this course you can expect to be able to launch and sail a dinghy with competence and confidence. We try to keep theory to a minimum so that you can spend as much time on the water as possible, with expert support; it is a very practical course.
Following on from the course you can now join in the Novice racing series. This is ideal for newly qualified sailors and will help to raise your confidence and skill. There will also be opportunities for you to join Friday night social sailing and practise your skills in a relaxed setting.
For Improvers
Some Friday evening race training sessions are also offered on a voluntary basis to help those who have attended the Learn to Sail Course continue to progress and join in Club racing.
Any Club members who wish to improve their racing skills are welcome to join these sessions. If you have been away from sailing for a while or would just like to refresh what you already know, then ask about these sessions because they will help you back onto the water in a fun way.
Moving On
Subject to demand we are planning to add a new course later in the year - RYA Better Sailing. This course picks up on points from the Learn to Sail course and adds skills that are of more general use to sailors, not directly concerned with racing. When dates for this become available they will be published in the newsletter.
During 2025 we will running courses on the following dates
03/05/25 - 04/05/25
17/05/25 - 18/05/25
07/06/25 - 08/06/25
05/07/25 - 06/07/25
19/07/25 - 20/07/25
