Please note: Training is available exclusively to Club members.
Course Dates
Adult RYA Level 1* - £100
Starts Fri 8 / Sat 9 May; continues Fri 22 / Sat 23 May and ends Fri 5 / Sat 6 June
Adult RYA Level 2 * - £100
Starts Fri 12 / Sat 13 June; continues Fri 26 / Sat 27 June and ends Fri 3 / Sat 4 July
* Each RYA Learn to Sail course runs over 3 Friday evenings (18:00 - 20:00) and Saturday mornings (09:00 - 13:00)
These RYA qualifications are internationally recognised. Successful completion will enable you to hire dinghies at sailing centres throughout the UK and overseas.
Course Content
Training includes a combination of on-the-water and on-shore sessions, covering:
While all topics will be thoroughly covered, course delivery may be adapted to suit prevailing weather conditions.
Post-Course Opportunities
From April to September, the Club offers Friday evening social sailing. Newly qualified sailors and any members wishing to build confidence or develop their skills are encouraged to take part. Opportunities include informal race training, advanced boat-handling, or simply relaxed recreational sailing. These coaching sessions are free of charge.
What to Wear
Weather conditions can vary, and you should expect your legs and feet to get wet. If it rains, you will get wet elsewhere too. Please bring:
Affordable options can often be found at sports retailers (approx. £55 for a full-length wetsuit, £25 for dinghy boots, and £30 for a spray top).
A 50N buoyancy aid is essential. If you do not own one, the Club will provide one.
If you wear glasses, please bring a strap to secure them. If you use an inhaler, ensure you carry it with you on the water and do not leave it in your car.

- Rigging and ropework
- Safe launching and recovery of a dinghy
- Sailing techniques and manoeuvres
- Sailing theory and background
- Basic racing skills
- Meteorology
- Capsize recovery
