7 races included - you can enter just one or all of them (note if you enter the Novice/Kneeling race you can not enter Race 1 or 2. The Novice/Kneeling race is for people who find it difficult to stand but still want to race and have fun).
Rules are very straightforward and will be explained to competitors at the start of each race so no prior racing knowledge is required. Club boards will be available for each race so just let us know when you book if you require a board.
- Race 1 – Sprint race - the exact course will depend on conditions of the day but the distance will be something like the end of the jetty to 3
- Race 2 – Distance race – again the exact course will depend on conditions of the day but the distance will be something like a triangular course with 2, 3 and 12. Testing but not exhausting.
Open Races
- Race 3 – Novice/Kneeling race - the exact course will depend on conditions of the day but the distance will be something like the end of the jetty to 3 and back. This will be done kneeling or sitting and is aimed at people who have just started the sport or feel a bit nervous doing either of the first two races. If you enter this race you can not compete in race 1 or 2.
- Race 4 – Relay race – these will be in random teams picked out of a hat so just enter and we will team you up. Distance racing will be no further than the end of the jetty to 3 single journey.
- Race 5 – Champagne race – a short distance race testing your steady hand. Can you paddle and hold a plastic champagne flute? Whoever has the most liquid left wins the prize. For this race we will also have a special prize for the Best Dressed competitor - feel free to get that fancy dress out for this one!
- Race 6 – Duck race – the duck (yellow plastic ones) will be released and whomever catches the most wins the race.
- Race 7 – Best trick on a paddleboard – this will be judged by an appointed panel. What is your most impressive move on the water? Head stand, impressive step back turn or something totally outside the box? Only stipulation is it must not harm yourself or anything/ anyone else.
Prizes
- A prize will be awarded to our Sprint winner of Race 1
- Another prize will be awarded to our Distance winner of race 2
- We will award a prize to an overall winner of the open races not including the Novice race. Points will be awarded as follows: 6 for a 1st, 5 for second, 4 for third and 1 point will be awarded for competing in each race so the more races you compete in the more points you get, even if you don't get 1st to 3rd place.
Maximum of 15 entrants per race.
The emphasis is on fun so please get involved and enjoy a great event!
