Thank you for your interest in Ogston Sailing Club. Below is some key information about the Club. If you need more details, you should find them on the other pages of this website. If you still have a question, here is a link to contact us.
Location and Facilities Ogston Reservoir is over 200 acres in size and sits in the Amber Valley in Derbyshire, approximately 4.5 miles east of Matlock. The Sailing Club is situated in the grounds of the old Amber Valley Camp and includes a large Club House, with Changing Rooms, Training and Youth Room, Main Club Room, Bar and Galley. Within the grounds, there is a well equipped Training building, a large Dinghy Park and extensive lawns bordered by trees. Access to the water is by two slipways and a long stony beach. On the Water We have a comprehensive calendar of dinghy racing, which in peak season takes place on a Wednesday evening, Saturday and Sunday. Free sailing runs in tandem at these times, except for a handful of open meetings. On Friday evenings, from April to late September, the water is busy with free sailing, training and coaching; often followed by a beer and a barbecue. Stand Up Paddleboards were introduced a few years ago and the number of SUP members grows and grows. Training Ogston is an RYA Teaching Centre and runs Learn to Sail courses for Adults and Juniors. We also have a team of Paddle UK qualified SUP instructors who run courses regularly. Equipment We have a comprehensive fleet of safety and support boats, a superb committee boat and an excellent range of Club boats and SUP’s. Membership includes use of the Club boats and SUPs for everyone who has reached the required minimum skill level. Social After racing, the Bar is always busy with members discussing where their race went wrong, or right. Throughout the year, there are a series of social events, with camping available on special occasions only, such as those late summer evening parties. Membership Ogston is a members only Club. We are currently open for new members. If you wish, you can spread the cost across the year and pay in 12 monthly instalments by Direct Debit. There is no joining fee. If you like what you have read and would like to come and take a look, let us know here. We look forward to meeting you. Kind regards Glyn Rawson Commodore Ogston Sailing Club |
