Free Sailing is the umbrella term for those sailors who want to get out on the water for pure enjoyment, or to hone their skills without the pressure of being in a race.
Ogston has a full and competitive racing programme, however we recognise that this isn't for everyone. Some of us are quite content to “bob” around and simply enjoy being on the water, some of us want to try something new and some of us just want to improve their boat skills without a formal training course.
Free Sailing is available at anytime when safety cover is on the water. This includes during race times on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (unless it is a “Closed Event”).
There is also regular Free Sailing on Friday evenings, when the club boats are freely available to use and it’s also a great opportunity to try a different class of dinghy.
Here at Ogston our aim is to increase sailing activities and to help remove barriers for those who don’t currently participate. To support new members, offer newly qualified sailors follow-on opportunities for experience and to encourage those less confident or competent to improve their skills.
